Al ser totalmente inerte y estéril, con pH neutro, es un medio ideal para cultivos hidropónicos de cualquier clase, recirculados y cultivos hidropónicos con solución perdida. Al mismo tiempo su alta porosidad le confiere la ligereza necesaria para que su manejo sea cómodo en este tipo de cultivos.
Beneficios que aporta: Los beneficios que nos aportan en nuestros cultivos son esenciales, aireación y retención hídrica, a la vez que protege de las altas temperaturas. Aumenta la porosidad y favorece el desarrollo radicular. A la hora de crear otro tipo de sustrato no hay fabricante que no se precie de usar una cierta cantidad en sus mezclas para asegurar la calidad de su sustrato. La perlita es un mineral volcánico que al someterse a altas temperaturas (800 – 900 ºC), se expande hasta 20 veces su volumen inicial.
Su estructura queda formada por múltiples orificios y poros que le permiten retener hasta 5 veces su peso en agua, con lo que es buena para mejorar la retención de agua del sustrato. Por la misma razón, es fácil combinarla con fertilizantes líquidos, fungicidas, u otras aplicaciones líquidas que se necesiten incorporar.
Favorece el desarrollo de las raíces al crear huecos (macro y microporos) mejorando la porosidad total. Esta aireación es esencial para las raíces e influye muy beneficiosamente en el desarrollo posterior de las plantas, impidiendo que el sustrato se apelmace con el tiempo.
